Lingerie Care: How to Wash your Sexy Lingerie
Posted by admin
It’s funny how lingerie can end up becoming a love-hate relationship. We all love lingerie; but, when time comes to clean it, it becomes a despise. It becomes even worse when you realize that it can’t be machine washed just like any other kind of clothes. Well, here are a few tips on how to take care of your lingerie. It’s not that hard!
Diana from Yandy Lingerie tells us there are two ways to clean your lingerie. The first one is handwashing it. It does take longer, and it is a lot more work; however, at the end you are going to appreciate it more. It damages less your lingerie and leaves it cleaner. The other way is much quicker and easier; it is washing it in the washing machine, but in a different manner than regular clothes.
Here it is how to handwash it:
- Sorting: When washing clothes it is always a must to sort the clothes into color and black and white. When washing lingerie, you should sort the lingerie into like colors, as close as possible.
- Starting: Fill a deep sink with cold water and a gentle detergent (it can be a light shampoo or liquid hand soap; do not use Woolite though, as it has been recommended by a few companies).
- Waiting: Leave the lingerie in the sink letting it soak for a good 12-15 minutes.
- Rubbing: This is where a bit of hard work is needed. Put a little extra soap to parts of your lingerie that contain a stain and start rubbing. Do so very delicate, and even more carefully if the fabric is silk or another delicate fabric. When you are done rubbing the lingerie, rinse it cold water.
- Hang Dry: Do not ever dry your lingerie in a dryer unless you are looking forward to ruining it. The dryer will shrink your lingerie and ruin its shape. Just put the lingerie in a clothesline or on a drying rack. Note that you also keep the lingerie away from the sun as the sunlight fades the colors.
That’s the ideal way to wash lingerie. But, we do not always have the time, so here goes the easy way…
- Sorting: Sort your lingerie just like if you were to handwash it (the first step above).
- Lingerie Bag: Get a lingerie bag to put the lingerie in for the washing machine. A lingerie bag is a mesh bag that contains the lingerie so it doesn’t ruin in the machine, but at the same time allows soap and water in for it to get clean. You can most likely get one for around $5.00. You can also use a pillow liner, but a lingerie bag is more recommended.
- Washing Machine: Just like above, use a gentle detergent and set the machine to the “delicate” cycle and use cold water.
- Hang Dry: The drying part is the same as above, just hang it somewhere; never use the dryer though!
Now, that’s much easier, no? Of course, handwashing the lingerie is always more recommended. But, it all depends on what you are able to do.
There are also other things you can do to take better care of your lingerie. One thing is to store it safely. That means keep it away from the sun (the fading, remember?), and fold it nicely. Also, remember to pack safely when traveling; especially your cosmetics, you don’t want them leaking into your lingerie. With all of those advices to keep your lingerie safe, you should be ready to start; remember always to be cautious!
